ResumoIn the following we describe some of the marked differences in the parameters observed in +CG and CG flashes. 80% of the positive flashes are composed of a single stroke, while negative single-stroke CG flashes correspond to only 20% of the total. The average number of ground contacts for CG flashes is 1.7 and for +CG flahes is only 1.1. Although all subsequent positive strokes in multiple-stroke flashes created a new termination on ground in negative this occurs only in 50% of the cases. Although positive and negative leaders have the same average speed when travelling towards ground, the positive leaders accelerate. The negative leaders are much more branched and do not exhibit the presence of recoil leaders. Recoil leaders are selfpropagating, negative leaders that move along previously developed paths of the positively charged portions of bidirectional leaders. They start from the tips of the HF/VHF invisible positive leaders and move backward toward the origin. These leaders can be seen in high-speed videos but are not seen in still photographs. They usually occur inside the cloud during CG flashes but may be observed during the propagation of positive leaders that come to ground in +CG flashes. Continuing current (CC), the continuous mode of charge transfer to ground in a cloud-to-ground lightning, are apparently responsible for most serious heating damage, mainly if they have long duration. Long continuing current (duration greater than 40 ms) are present in aproximately 70% of the +CG flashes but only in about 30% of the negative flashes.
